This week my Word of the Week is: Moving! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

We have lived here for about 8 years. It might actually be nearly 9 but we've come to the point where we are done with this house. We seem to have outgrown it and we're not too keen on the area where we're living now.

Stu and I have talked lots about moving house over the past year and we have decided to go ahead with it. On Monday we rang our landlord and gave her a couple of months notice. Eek!

Our landlord has been brilliant! We haven't had an increase in rent in the whole time we've lived here. If I look on property websites the average house around here is at least £50/100 more a month. The major repairs have always been done quickly. We had a leak under the bath a couple of years ago and she sent her husband as soon as she'd read the message with bottles of water and to see what he could do to fix it. When the pilot light kept going off last year on the boiler she had the boiler man out 3 days on the trot just to light it until she could get it fixed properly. I dread to think how much that would have cost! She's been fab!

When we moved in this house there was no other kids around here. Time passes, children were born and their parents think they are old enough to play out without any supervision. Grr! Last summer we were terrorised by these kids! We've nicknamed them "the feral kids". They think nothing of wrecking peoples gardens, beheading the roses in my front garden, swinging off trees, snapping branches, throwing stones, peeing in the street and leaving junk everywhere! Now the weather is warming up, they are out again and I just don't like it.

Our street is getting more and more rough. It was nice when we moved in. An old lady next door and a couple at the other side of us who were nice. Our neighbours now are not great. We just don't feel happy living here anymore. The kids can't play out in our street because they get bothered by the "feral kids" and it's just not the same as when we moved in.

We have a new house sorted which is available at the end of June. It is a similar size to the house we have now but the kitchen is much bigger, there is a garden with actual grass, no more concrete for us and a garage. It is perfect timing, Becky will have just finished her GCSE's so it won't disrupt her and it will be a couple of weeks before the school breaks up for the 6 weeks holiday so we have all summer to settle in. Of course I will be blogging more about it but now I am thinking about all the packing we have to do. It's going to be a great excuse to have a big declutter!

  4. How wow! That seems sudden, but so exciting. I hate moving house but we had to move from the house I lived in for 24 years because it was way too small. It will be lovely for you to have a proper garden :) Thanks for linking up to #Wotw

  6. Now that is exciting. Shame you can't take the landlord with you, but it will be good to leave the area. Good timing too. Can Ellie stay at the same school? #wotw

  9. Wishing you the best in your move. It sounds like you certainly did have a lovely landlord. I'm sure it will be much better being away from the feral kids though. #mmbc

  10. Good luck! I hope you will be very happy in your new house. I wouldn't like to have those kids around either, it sounds awful. x
