Sleeperz Hotel, Newcastle. - Review!

We recently had a little break away and because of the train strikes we decided to go a couple of days earlier than we had planned and spend some time in Newcastle. I spent hours looking for hotels, trying to get a decent price, somewhere which looked nice and with free Wi-Fi. We were all set to book a Premier Inn until I came across Sleeperz Hotel.

Sleeperz Hotel Newcastle

Just a few minutes walk from the central rail and metro stations it is a great location to explore the city. At Sleeperz their mission is to create stylish, distinctive lifestyle hotels in emerging locations, offering great value and friendly hospitality.

Check in is at 3pm and we arrived at about 11am and the staff were happy to take our suitcases and store them at no extra cost until our rooms were ready which was a bonus. We spent the day in Newcastle and arrived back at the hotel just after 3pm and our room was ready. We checked in properly and it was simple and straightforward. We were asked if we wanted breakfast the next morning for a discounted rate of £6.95 each which was fantastic as when I had booked the only option was to book for both days at £8.95 each.

We found our rooms easily enough. I had booked 2 double rooms as everything else was booked up. I only booked on the Saturday when our trains were cancelled and we arrived on the Wednesday so I imagine if you book earlier there is more choice of rooms. We were going to go for a family room with a double bed and a bunk bed but the double rooms worked out well and the girls just shared a bed which they were fine with. The rooms were opposite each other. We had the front room with a view of the Tyne bridge and the girls had a room with a view of the station. I did worry about the noise but we heard nothing, not even from the trains!

The double rooms offer a double bed and a generous range of features from in room climate control/air conditioning, towels, a TV with Freeview, an en-suite wet room with heated anti steam mirrors and heated floors, a desk, hairdryer, plenty of sockets, blackout curtains, a kettle, tea and coffee supplies and a safe.

The rooms are very minimalistic with little storage. All there is are the 4 coat hangers, what they could really do with is somewhere to hang your coat or jacket near the door. It is fine enough for a short stay and we mostly lived out of our suitcases for a the couple of days there. There was more than enough room to leave our suitcase open on the floor near the big window. The windows are huge and I was worried that the sun would wake us on the morning but the blackout curtains were fantastic.

The bathroom was the same, it just had the basics in but at the same time there was everything we needed. Lots of mirrors, a fantastic shower and great lighting. The only thing you need to think about is that if someone has been in the shower the floor in front of the toilet can get water on as it is classed as a wet room so walking in there with socks on is not a good idea. hehehe

When you walk into the room there is a little card holder on the wall which your room card fits into and switches the electricity on in the room. I think that is such a great idea as when you leave the room there is no fear of leaving the lights on.

The air conditioning in the room was fantastic as well as cooling the room it could heat it too, there were clear instructions on the wall. The only complaint I had about it was it was quite loud when we were going to sleep so I had to switch it off which I was worried about as I always think hotel rooms can get stuffy but this one was fine! Phew!

When we had been for a meal out and returned to the hotel on the evening we decided to have a drink in the bar. They have a fantastically stocked bar with most drinks and a fab selection of cocktails which we of course had to try. I had a Pina Colada and Becky had a Strawberry Daiquiri. The poor guy who was on the main desk came around to the bar to serve us and panicked a little when we asked for the cocktails. He wasn't trained in making them but did get someone to make them. Hooray!

We all had such a great nights sleep and the beds were so comfortable. We were up early for breakfast which is served from about half past 7 until 10am. They have what you expect from a hotel breakfast: Cooked items including sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, tomatoes, baked beans and rosti potatoes. Continental options including breads & pastries, jams and sauces, cheeses, salami, ham, cereal, dried and fresh fruit, juices, tea and coffee. There was gluten free options, lots of different types of milk and butters so all diets were catered for. When anything was coming close to looking empty it was swiftly restocked.

The staff all the way through the hotel from those at the front desk to the cleaners were so cheery and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they made our stay something special.

We stayed at Sleeperz Hotel in Newcastle for two nights and had two standard double rooms costing £176.80 for the entire stay which I think was a fantastic price. It was a lot cheaper than a lot of other hotels in Newcastle.

We loved the Sleeperz Hotel and would be happy to go back again. It was comfortable, welcoming, clean and a bargain price!

Have you stayed at a Sleeperz Hotel before?

  1. The price is great and the room looks lovely. I think you are right about the coat hangers, only 4 is not enough, unless one just spends a night or two there. Otherwise it seems like a very good place to stay.
I never heard of them, but I will check them out, to see if they have something close to where we are going to travel.

  5. That's a super bargain price. Nice to see well cooked sausages - sometimes hotels cook them and they look anaemic! Sounds like a nice hotel and just did the job for what you wanted.
