Somebody That I Used to Know. #Blogtober20

I am taking part in Blogtober20 throughout October and today's prompt is "Somebody That I Used to Know".

There's somebody that I used to know who used to be afraid to speak on the phone, didn't exercise, had patience, didn't know anything about gardening, spent too much money, hated eating breakfast, drank too much coffee and didn't watch the news .

That person was me but since Coronavirus happened it's not just my hair that has changed, it's me too!

As bad a Coronavirus is I think it has changed me for the better. It has made me do things I wouldn't normally do.

I speak on the phone now without stressing about it. My dad may have pushed me into that when I've been helping him with his admin and bits on his computer. It was easier me speaking to someone helping with things like trying to set up things like contactless card readers and him getting new broadband internet. I won't go out of my way to use the phone but when I have to it doesn't stress me out like it used to.

I am still not big on exercise but I definitely do more than I used to. It all started with daily walks during lockdown and going out on our bikes and now I am happy to go for a walk just for the sake of it.

I used to have a lot of patience with people but a pandemic has shown me that a lot of people are idiots! Those who don't wear masks just because they don't want to be forced to by the government, the people who just don't social distance and those who take their times blocking the aisles in shops because they forget we have to social distance.

When lockdown started I didn't know a thing about gardening but I think I have done quite well in mine considering I planted everything late and didn't have a clue what I was doing. The wild flowers in the flower bed were amazing and still look pretty good now and I managed to grow peas and tomatoes. The peppers and sunflowers didn't grow at all but there's always next year!

We seem to be spending less money as a family. At the start of lockdown I struggled to get the online grocery deliveries and had to use what we had in and shop locally. This has carried on to a point. We still use the farm shop and the local butchers now and again but I am trying to use what we have in instead of getting a big food shop every week.

I now eat 3 meals a day. I never used to bother with breakfast but during lockdown I would eat something with the kids and have carried that habit on. I might not eat it until after 9am but it's still an extra meal. I have also stopped drinking coffee, well the caffeinated kind. I do still have a decaf one but not as much as I used to. I feel better for it.

Like most people I have watched so much more of the news since March. It did get to a point where I was watching too much and it was stressing me out but now I watch either the 6pm or 10pm news and that's it unless there's something big happening like a press conference from Boris. I feel like I have to watch the news now because so much seems to be changing every day.

Have you changed because of Coronavirus?

  1. I think a lot of us have changed since the virus made an appearance, I've certainly seen sides to people I've not noticed before. A lot of what I've noticed is bad but I'm so happy to read that things are good for you. Well done for taking this opportunity to make improvements to your life. I'll definitely begin growing vegetables for next year. :) (might even dye my hair, lol) xx

  2. It's great to read about positive changes. I know DH and I had started moving towards a more healthy lifestyle pre-COVID but the lockdown oddly enough made it easier to focus and make time for exercise.

As for the gardening it comes with time. There are lots of helpful hints that can you can find to help you figure out what works best locally. We had a shock this year because we found tomatoes growing in our asparagus bed. We didn't plant tomatoes but through our compost they must have reseeded and in late Sept and Oct we've had cherry tomatoes. We have had a nice little joyful surprise.

Never hesitate to celebrate your victories. There will always be steps back but celebrate moving forward.

  3. I'm not sure that I have changed much since the virus began. If anything I avoid social media and the news even more than I used to. We have tried many many times to grow our own foods but that has never worked out well for us.. I debated trying again but realized that I wouldn't just magically know how to grow things now. LOL. Good for you for making positive changes; even if they were unintentional.
