This week my Word of the Week is: Phone! #WotW

This week my Word of the Week is:

Phone

I had no idea what my Word of the Week was going to be until my phone started shouting "text message" at me. That is the sound I have for the notification. lol At the most I usually get about one or two text messages a day but yesterday morning before 11am I had 2 from O2, one from the doctors, two from Evri, one from Ellie's school then a couple from Becky. I did think about putting my phone on silent but then thought I didn't want to miss out on anything.

My phone did an update at the start of the week and there was quite a few changes. I don't usually notice the changes when my phone updates but this one must have been a big one. The changes weren't massive one's but enough for me to think that's different. Certain things are smaller, some things are bigger or a different colour. It is really bugging me and reminds me that I don't like the changes in technology that we have.

I had to make a phone call this week and ended up having to spell something out phonetically because the woman on the phone just wasn't getting the spelling of the words I was saying. I do not know the phonetic alphabet when you get past C so that was interesting. I went with T for tomato, J for jam and K for Kim. lol It was the most stressful part of my week spelling out about 5 words. Stu was stood looking at me on the phone, started off looking puzzled and then had to walk away laughing because he could see I was having a right faff. I hate speaking on the phone. lol

I don't mind speaking on the phone to my dad's partner though. We speak most days and it's not just for a few minutes. I have a feeling she's going to get a telling off when her phone bill comes in. She gets unlimited calls as long as they are under an hour long and my dad is always reminding her to hang up at 59 minutes and ring back. We were chatting for nearly an hour and a half the other day before we realised where the time had gone. Oops. It wasn't even about anything important.

Becky had to make an important phone call this week too. She has her first driving lesson booked in and the instructor needed a code from the Gov website to check on her provisional licence which should have been a simple case of putting her details into the website but no, they wouldn't accept them. She tried the live chat online and waited and waited and nothing so she ended up ringing up. It was all sorted in 2 minutes. She got the code and passed it to her driving instructor so she's all set to start driving. Eek!

We don't have contracts with our phones, we're on Pay As You Go but have a Bolt On thingy with O2 where we pay £5 a month for unlimited calls and texts and every month. So topping up just once every 2 months works for us, well most of us. Since Ellie has started using the Bolt On on her phone she has managed to use the £5 which is supposed to be for the next month on data. It has been a cause of arguments between us but over the last month she has finally got the hang of not switching her data on. It's little things like that which make me proud. It takes a lot of nagging but sometimes I feel like Ellie listens to me.

What word sums up your week?

  1. I have the same phone as you and I had the big update this week too. I don't know why they had to change the fonts! I hate talking on the phone too, but I used to talk to my Mum for hours, my ear would burn, lol. I had a shock last month with Star's phone bill, we are on contracts but I limit how much they can go over, usually just £5. However, when we were on holiday we couldn't get on the internet and she couldn't cope not talking to her boyfriend so I lifted her limit....she cost me £67! xx

  2. What a 'delightful' week on the phone! Very interesting and I'm sorry for your step mum when that bill comes in. I have a contract but at the moment I pay £7 to Three for being a very loyal customer for almost 20 years! I have unlimited calls and texts in the UK and 30gig of data. It serves me well and I almost never turn the data off.
Anyhow, good luck with it and I look forward to hearing how your daughter gets on with her driving.

  3. Oh I hate when my phone automatically updates and changes everything. I love technology but only when it's older and I feel like I really know my way around it. I don't mind talking on the phone with family member (my mother or my sister and I can easily talk for hours!) but I really hate having to talk to anyone else; doctor's offices, etc. I put off as long as I possibly can.
